Helen Hayes Pierce

Mrs. Helen Hayes Pierce 82, of Burlington, NC passed away on February 14, 2022 at her residence. A native of Alamance Co. NC she was the daughter of the late Luther and Louise Moize Hayes and the wife of the late Donald Lee Pierce. After graduating from High School, Helen went to work with Melville Dairy and worked with the Scott Family Campaign for Bob Scott’s Governor’s race. Following her time at Melville Dairy, she then spent many years as a Mechanist with Leesona Textile Machines and was highly involved with the Local Steel workers Union Local #8205 of which she was so very proud. Following her retirement from Leesona, she found herself working for the Alamance County ABC Board as a clerk for 15 years. Helen was a member of the Alamance County 4H Club and a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church. Helen enjoyed sewing and crafts and was known to be a wonderful gardener and she loved her dogs with all her heart. Survivors include her loving son, Hayes Lee Pierce and wife Scarlett, her special twin granddaughters, Haley and Harper Pierce; sisters, Linda Watkins, Diane Adams and husband George, and Faye Combs and husband, Howard; a brother, David Hayes and wife JoAnn and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jo Adams and Belva Lee Whitt; a brother, Eugene Hayes and a brother in law, Billy Watkins. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday February 18, 2022 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Pastor Tommy Lee Officiating. Burial will follow alongside her husband Donald at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until service time on Friday at McClure in Graham and other times at the residence of the family.
