Henry "Cotton" Bryant Lankford

Henry Bryant Lankford, age 76, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016 surrounded by family at Alamance County Regional Medical Center, Burlington NC. Mr. Lankford, better known as “Cotton”, was a wonderful husband, father, “Paw-Paw”, brother and friend. He was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church, Mebane, NC having served as financial chairman for many years. He loved his family and his church. He was known by the children at Hebron as Mr. Cotton the candy man. He was an avid golfer, UNC fan and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Lankford graduated from Aycock High School, Cedar Grove, NC. Upon graduation he joined the U. S. Army and served in the U.S. Army Reserve before being honorably discharged in 1966. He attended Elon College and retired from AT&T Guilford Center where he was a transportation specialist. He worked part time at Tommy’s Minimart in both Mebane locations. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Nelson Lankford, son Sammy Lankford and wife Laura, daughter Michelle Lee, granddaughter Jordan J. Robinson and husband Brian and granddaughter Rachel Lankford, grandson John Lee, great granddaughters Marleigh Lankford and Zoey Chatfield, step-grandsons Jesse Chatfield and wife Kristin and Michael Chatfield. Also surviving is brother Charles R. Lankford and wife Sylvia, nephews Reid and Mark Lankford and niece Anna Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryant and Rachel Patterson Lankford, and great grandson Jaxson Ray Chatfield. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday at Hebron United Methodist Church, with Pastors Bryan Sexton and William Holliday presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6 – 8 pm Friday at McClure Funeral and Cremation Service in Mebane.
