Born on August 22, 1941, in Berkeley Co., West Virginia, Hershell's life was a testament to the enduring power of dedication and love. Hershell's journey through life was shared with his loving wife of 64 years, Vivian Church Pennington. Together, they built a legacy of love and commitment that was evident in every aspect of their lives. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Beverly Edwards and Tracy Irby, and her husband Avery Jr., and his son, Eric Pennington, and his wife Brittney. His role as a grandfather and great-grandfather was one he cherished deeply, as he showered Brad Edwards and his wife Jessica, Matthew Edwards and his wife Amber, Isaac Irby, Ella Pennington, and Berkley Pennington, as well as his great-grandchildren Ellison, Isley, Hazel, and Vivian Edwards, with unconditional love and wisdom. Hershell's parents, Bennie and Della Wilcox, preceded him in death, but the values they instilled in him lived on through his actions and the lessons he passed down to his family. Professionally, Hershell was a respected figure in the Auto Repair industry, where he dedicated numerous years of service. His work ethic and integrity were unmatched, and he was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His colleagues and customers alike respected him for his honesty and expertise. Hershell's interests and passions were as rich and varied as his life. A true family man, he was known for being a hardworking provider, always ensuring that his loved ones were cared for. Sundays would find him engrossed in the world of NASCAR, a sport he followed with fervor. His enthusiasm for the races was contagious, and he enjoyed sharing this passion with his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday December 5, 2025, at the McClure Funeral Home in Mebane with his grandson, Matthew Edwards, who is officiating. Burial will follow in Mebane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
