Hilda Sykes

Hilda Elmore Sykes, 91, of Efland, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 13, 2026. She leaves behind two daughters Brenda McCants (Larry), Linda Poythress(Randall), six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one brother (Jimmy Elmore), two sisters (Carolyn Mize and Joan Cecil), nieces and nephews. Hilda was predeceased by her husband Alexander Sykes, parents (Eva and Henry Elmore), and one brother (Gordon Elmore).

Hilda was known as a devoted mother, military wife and servant of the Lord. Her spiritual journey began in 1946 at Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church. As a member of the church for over 80 years she served in various capacities in addition to serving people in her community.

Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday April 15 at McClure Funeral Service, Mebane, NC. A service celebrating Hilda’s life will be held on Thursday, April 16 at 11:00 am at Chestnut Ridge UMC, Efland, NC.
