Ida "Pearl" (Watkins) Melvin

Mrs. Ida “Pearl” Watkins Melvin, 82, of Graham, NC, passed away on May 30, 2022 at the Hospice Home of Burlington. She was a native of Columbus Co., NC, born to the late John and Mattie Nobles Watkins. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. She was a homemaker, but always found time to look after children of friends and family for numerous years. Pearl enjoyed making quilts, gardening, doing her puzzles, and artwork. Over the years, she and her husband, John, enjoyed their trips to Maggie valley. She was one of 12 children and always put her family first. Everyone loved her cooking. Pearl had a wonderful kindness about her and loved to smile. She was the rock of the family, but nothing made her happier than her grandchildren. She had a strong love for the Lord and was a member of Wicker Street Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, John David Melvin; her loving sons, Greg Melvin and Mike Melvin and wife Myra; her grandchildren, Charlie Melvin, Rachel Melvin, Caleb Sykes and Jacob Sykes; her sisters, Kina Blackwell, Linda hall and husband Roger, and Nora Hall and husband James; sister in laws, Elaine Watkins, Sylvia Watkins and her many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Faye Gerringer, and Pauline Watkins; her brothers, John Jr., Don, Bill, Alvin, and Graham Watkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 3, 2022, at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Pastors Ricky Lewis and Scott London officiating. Burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday and other times at the residence of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wicker Street Baptist Church at 512 Wicker St. Burlington, NC 27217.
