Irene (Harris) Whaley

Ms. Irene Harris Whaley, 94, of Mebane, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Bertie McLawhorn Harris. Irene will be remembered for her love for children. She spent many years in childcare taking care of and adoring every child she met. Irene also enjoyed yard sales, always seeing what kind of things she could find. Above all, her greatest love and joy was her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Whaley; her son, Jimmy E. Whaley; her daughter, Rosa Lee White; her grandson, Michael Whaley; her granddaughter, Karin H. Duggins; her brother, Bud Harris; and her sister, Mildred Huggins.

Ms. Irene is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. Whaley; her son, Robert J. Whaley (Betty); her daughter in law, Barbara M. Whaley; her grandchildren, Shannon Whaley (Ali), Christie Doss (Jay), and Tim Hunt; 10 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane beginning at 12:00pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Robert and Betty Whaley.
