Jack Walter Dodson

Mr. Jack Walter Dodson, 93, of Graham, NC, passed away on Tuesday January 23, 2018 at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. Born in Orange County, NC, he was the son of the late Walter Lee and Caledonia Atkinson Dodson. Jack was the owner and operator of Jack Dodson Construction Company for numerous years. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII with the 19th Naval Construction Battalion which he was so proud to be an American and serve his country. Jack’s joy was to be there for others. He would carry the neighborhood children to ball games in his station wagon so everyone would have a ride. He also always looked after the elderly folks that needed help with different things as he would always drop what he was doing to help. Jack was known for his kind heart for others, often doing things for people without them knowing he had done so, never wanting recognition for the work he had done. Jack would keep his wood and paint left over from construction jobs so that he had the material to help the less fortunate when repairs needed to be done around their houses. He would do these things for people without even being asked to as he always put others above himself. Jack loved the Lord and served him every day. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for many years where he and his wife Mossie were proudly the first members of the new Church. Jack cherished his Church and Church family dearly. Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Mossie Jarrell Dodson, of the home; daughter, Lea Dodson Burch, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Ericka Burch, Harrison Burch and wife Hannah, Daniel Burch, Amanda Kimrey, Sean Kimrey and Kristina Kimrey; brother, Leonard Dodson and wife Myra, of Mebane and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughters, Miranda Jane Dodson and Jackie D. Kimrey; sisters, Nancy Baker, Annie Eason, Mable Griffin, Lucille Pickens and Mildred Craig; brothers, Russell, Vernon, Allen and Herbert Dodson. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 27, 2018 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Pastors David Jackson and his nephew, Pastor Richard Dodson officiating. The burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park with Military Honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at McClure Funeral Service in Graham and other times at the residence of the family.
