MEBANE, N.C. - Jack Melvin Florence, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at his residence.Mr. Florence was born in Alamance County, N.C. He retired from Cone Mills, served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of Riverview Baptist Church.He is survived by his wife, Ruby Morris Florence; daughters, Betty Vaughn (Matt) of Mebane, N.C. and Amy Maness (Jerry) of Burlington, N.C.; son, Ricky Florence (Rachel) of Hurdle Mills, N.C.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six great- grandchildren; sister, Frances Terrell of Havelock, N.C.; and brothers, Willard Florence (Lorraine) and Robert Florence (Dottie), all Mebane, N.C., and Aubrey Florence (Naomi) of Henderson, N.C.He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Florence; parents, John Pennix Florence and Effie Boswell Florence; and brothers, John Henry Florence and James Lee Florence Sr.A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane. Officiating will be the Rev. Jim Florence. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence.The family asks that memorials be made to Ruby Florence.
