Jackie Clayton

Jackie Clayton (née Burton) was born on April 4, 1934, in Hillsborough, North Carolina, to Charlie and Viola Burton. She peacefully passed away on August 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Jackie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bobby Clayton, and siblings, Dot Andrews, Faye Hinshaw, Polly Batton, Doris Wilson, Adrian Burton, and Bobby Burton. She is survived by her children, Steve (Susan) Clayton and Cyndi (Ray) Shimer, along with her grandchildren, Erin Galloway (Kevin), Abigail Shimer-Myrdal (Kristian), and Rebekah Shimer. Jackie also leaves behind a great-granddaughter, Henley Galloway, and two sisters, Billie Horner and Phyllis Austin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jackie was a graduate of Hillsborough High School, class of 1952. She married Bobby on September 10, 1955, at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years together. She served as Deputy Clerk of Court of Orange County before retiring after 25 years. Jackie was an active member of Lawrence Road Baptist Church.

A service honoring her life will be held on Saturday, August 29 at 2:00pm at Lawrence Road Baptist Church in Hillsborough. Visitation will immediately precede the service at 1:00pm.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Cardiac ICU of UNC Medical Center for their exemplary care and the staff of Authoracare Hospice for their compassionate care for our whole family.
