James "Jim" E. Roland Sr.

James “Jim” E. Roland, Sr. passed away at Duke Hospital on March 17, 2019 at 1:00 a.m. at the age of 83. He was born in Burningtown of Macon County, NC.  He moved to Greensboro, NC where he met his wife and began working for a forklift dealership, later transferring to Charlotte where he began his life long journey of raising his family and opening his own forklift dealership.  While there, he was very active in the West Mecklenburg Optimist Youth Club.  Jim was a Godly man, very active in his community and church.  He had a love for family, fishing and fellowship. Jim was survived by his loving, devoted wife of 62 years, Jackie Roland; his children, Eddy (Julie) Roland, Sandra (Chris) Yerton; his grandchildren, Holly (Derek) Hunter, Beth Roland, Dillon Yerton, Magan Roland, Tristen Trull, Mia (Nick) Hurley and Chandler Nikodemski; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Doyle and Geneva Roland, brothers Bill and John Roland, sister Jessie Dean Proffitt; his son, Karl Roland; his grandchildren, Ashley and Kyle Roland. Visitation will be held at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane, NC on March 19th from 6 pm to 8 pm.  The funeral service will be held at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane, NC on Wednesday, March 20th at 2:00 pm. with Pastor Fred Treadwell officiating with internment to follow at Cooper Cemetery, Prospect Hill, NC.  A reception will take place immediately following internment at Bethel United Methodist Church, Ridgeville Road, Prospect Hill, NC.
