James "Harold" Oldham, known affectionately as Harold to his friends and family, passed away on September 30, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on April 28, 1948, Harold's life was one marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering love for his family and country.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Karen Oldham, who has been his steadfast partner in life's journey. Together, they raised a family that includes a son, Jason Huey and his wife Nikki, and a daughter, Kim Huey Mosher. Harold's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Kaitlin Everhart (Carly), Savannah Mosher, Justin Mosher, Ashleigh Hurysz (Carson), Emma Huey, and Ethan Michaels. The family joyfully anticipates the arrival of a great grandchild, Madeline Jo ,who will no doubt hear many stories of Harold's kindness and strength. Harold also leaves behind his sister, Janice Copeland, and his brother, William T. Oldham Jr., along with a host of extended family members who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, William T. Oldham Sr. and Betty Rice Oldham.
Harold's life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to service. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years, including a tour in Vietnam, demonstrating bravery and patriotism. Following his time in the Air Force, Harold continued his military career by joining the United States Army/North Carolina National Guard, where he dedicated 33 more years of service before retiring as a respected 1st Sergeant. His military career was not just a job but a calling, and he wore his uniform with pride and honor.
Beyond his military service, Harold was a devoted family man. He took great pleasure in life's simple moments, whether it was a family gathering, day trips, riding with Karen, eating out, or teaching his grandchildren the values of honor and respect. His love for his country was only matched by the love he had for his family, and he instilled in them a sense of pride and patriotism.
Harold's interests and hobbies were many, but they all circled back to the people he loved. He was a man who found joy in the happiness of others, and his presence was a source of comfort and strength. His laughter, wisdom, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 4, 2025 in the McClure Funeral Chapel in Mebane. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to www.durham.va.gov and specify Hospice- Heroes Way, or to Tunnel to Towers at www.t2t.org
