James Warren Shankle Sr.

James Warren Shankle Sr. passed away on August 4, 2018. Mr. Shankle graduated from Durham HS in 1954, where he lettered in football and track. Upon graduation he served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He then worked for Strawbridge Studios taking school portraits and sports photographs for over 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Shankle, son; James Warren Shankle II, stepsons; Michael Lessig (Janet) and Craig Lessig (Charlotte), stepdaughter; Cynthia Arneson (Steve), nephews; Pete Shankle Jr. and Henry D. Shankle, four grandchildren; Heather, Stephen, Danielle, Haley and four great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry D. Shankle and Zetris Shankle, a brother Pete Shankle and his previous wife Jacqueline Cowan Shankle.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday August 7, 2018 from 6-8 at McClure Funeral and Cremation Service in Mebane. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday August 8, 2018 at Efland United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
