James Edward Strader Sr.

James Edward Strader Sr., 79, of Mebane, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. He was born and raised in Caswell County, North Carolina, where he grew up alongside his seven brothers and sisters. From a young age, he learned the value of hard work while laboring in the tobacco fields. He later built a long and steady career at Walter Kidde, where he remained until his retirement. James proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. A devoted Christian, James was a faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He loved going to church and living out his faith. In his spare time, James enjoyed working in his shop making all kinds of things out of wood. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Edna Strader; his brothers, Herman Strader, Bobby Strader, Walter Strader; and sisters, Kathleen Wray, Mildred Thompson, Margaret Oakes.

James is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Strader; his son, James Strader Jr. and wife Amanda; his granddaughter Addison Strader McGill and husband Jack; and his sister, Carolyn Strader Weiss and husband Tom.

A service will be held to honor James' life on Monday, February 9, 2026, beginning at 2:00pm at Eastside Baptist Church in Mebane: 333 Supper Club Road Mebane, NC 27302. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery.
