Mrs. Janice Ann Pender James, 76, of 133 New Castle Rd. Mebane, NC, passed away on Monday December 21, 2015 at her residence. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Nelson and Rose Edna Wilkinson Pender. She was a lifelong educator and taught at Alamance Community College for numerous years prior to her retirement from Duke Power. She was a member of Mebane United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Jay Burton James, of the home; son, Richard T. James and wife Sherry, of Graham; daughters, Diane J. McGurl and husband Mike, of Sharpsburg, GA, Karyn J. Burke and husband Brian, of Mebane, and Jill J. Rhaihat and husband Abdel, of Raleigh; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Judy Haworth and husband Richard, of Burlington, Kay York and husband Steve, of Jamestown, NC, and Debbie Hill and husband A.P., of Burlington, and a host of loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday December 23, 2015 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane with the Rev. Tommy Loftis officiating. The family will receive friends following the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Alamance/Caswell at 918 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Mebane UMC at200 S 4th St, Mebane, NC 27302.
