Janice Andrews Riley, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at the age of 84 in Alamance Co., NC after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on March 3, 1941, in Chatham Co., NC, Janice, affectionately known by those who loved her, lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the simple joys that knit the fabric of a well-lived life. Janice's journey began as the daughter of Garland and Rosa Stout Andrews, and she grew up alongside her sisters, Sandra Andrews and Judy Smith. Her life was further blessed when she met and married the love of her life, Darrell Tilton Riley. Together, they built a family and a home that was a sanctuary of warmth and kindness. Though she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years and her parents, Janice's legacy is carried on through her loving family. A devoted mother, Janice's life was enriched by her daughters, Kim Dodson and husband L.T., Tracey VanSchaick and husband Tim, and Tara Jernigan and husband Jay. She instilled in them the values of compassion, integrity, and the importance of family. Her grandchildren, Chris Dodson and wife Katie, Caroline Sefner and husband Daniel, Brandon VanSchaick and wife Stephanie, Brooke Fine and husband Steven, Jadon VanSchaick, Connor Jernigan, and Lila Jernigan, were the apples of her eye, and she cherished every moment spent with them. The joy of her family grew with the addition of ten great-grandchildren, who will grow up hearing tales of their great-grandmother's kindness and grace. Janice's Christian faith was the cornerstone of her existence. It guided her through life's challenges and was evident in the way she lived each day. She was a homemaker, a role she embraced with pride and dedication. Her home was always filled with the aroma of freshly baked goods and the sound of laughter. Janice was known for her ability to listen and offer wise counsel, earning her the reputation of being a godly mother and the peacemaker of her home. Her interests were simple yet profound. Cooking and baking for family and friends brought her immense joy, as did the camping trips and beach getaways she shared with her family over the years. These moments were not just pastimes but an expression of her love and her desire to create lasting memories with those she held dear. Janice's life was a testament to the power of putting others before oneself. Her selfless nature was a gift to all who knew her, and her presence was a comforting reminder of the goodness in the world. As we bid farewell to Janice Andrews Riley, we celebrate a life that was truly well-lived, a life that will continue to inspire and guide us through the cherished memories she leaves behind. Her family, a testament to the love and care she so generously gave, will continue to honor her legacy by living out the values she taught through her actions and her unwavering faith. Janice Andrews Riley's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have felt the warmth of her gentle spirit. A private graveside service will be held at Hawfields Presbyterian Church Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Darrell with her grandson, Chris Dodson officiating. McClure Funeral Service in Graham is assisting the family.
