Jeanette Atkins Holmes

Mrs. Jeanette Atkins Holmes 85, of Seaboard, NC passed away on September 25, 2024 at the ECU Hospital (Roanoke-Chowan) in Ahoskie, NC. A native of Orange Co. NC, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Nina McAdams Atkins. Jeanette had a strong love for her family and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them at cookouts and days at the lake. Over the years, she loved her bus trips with her “Lady’s” and was an avid George Jones fan. Family was her priority and will forever be known as a woman who put the needs of others above her own but nothing would put a smile on her face like her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Don Hilliard and wife Sherry, Blake Hilliard and wife Anne, Nancy Hilliard and companion, Moochie, and Rodney Hilliard and wife Mary; her loving grandchildren, Carson Hilliard, Lacey Hilliard, Lauren Francis, Ryanne Bunting, Rebecca Hilliard, Phillip Barnes, Adam Barnes, Story Bradley, Heather Wood, and Summer Bolton; her great grandchildren, Piper, Mason, Eli, Owen, Lee, Charley Mae, Lincoln, Kingston, and Pierson; and a brother Doug Atkins and wife Diann, and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Holmes; her sisters, Gladys Turner, Colleen Kapp and brothers, Cecil and Glenn Atkins. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday October 1, 2024 at Mt. Zion Christian Church Cemetery located at 2310 Mt. Zion Ch. Rd. Mebane, NC 27302. Pastor Rick Webster will be officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Mt. Zion Christian Church at 2310 Mt. Zion Ch. Rd. Mebane, NC 27302 or to the Pine Forrest Rest Home at 3277 Hwy. 35 Woodland, NC 27897. McClure Funeral Service in Mebane, NC is assisting the family.
