Mebane

Jo Anne Amick Hunter of Mebane, North Carolina, passed away on June 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

Born and raised in downtown Mebane, Jo Anne was a proud graduate of Appalachian State University and Peace College. She was known for her warm heart, infectious laugh, beautiful smile, and her ability to make friends wherever she went. She never met a stranger and could turn any conversation into a friendship.

Jo Anne loved life and embraced it with enthusiasm. She was a talented baker whose homemade treats brought comfort and joy to family gatherings, holidays, and special occasions. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she transformed her home into a magical winter wonderland filled with lights, decorations, laughter, and love. The holiday season wasn’t just something she celebrated, it was something she created for everyone around her.

She also found peace and happiness at the beach. Whether sitting by the ocean, feeling the salt air, or spending time with family along the shore, the beach was one of her favorite places in the world. She loved traveling, crafting, animals, and making memories with the people she loved most.

Her greatest joy was her family. She adored her children and grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. After the loss of her husband, Jabe, she found love and companionship again with her partner, Jack Ragsdale, who brought happiness and comfort into her life.

Jo Anne was preceded in death by her parents, George Crawford “GC” Amick and Josephine “Jo” Amick; her sister, Jeanette Amick; her brother, George Crawford “Butch” Amick; and her husband, Jabe Gutherie Hunter.

She is survived by her children, Mattie Hunter, Joseph Hunter, and Jabe Gutherie Hunter Jr. (Aggie); her loving partner, Jack Ragsdale; her nephew and niece, Randy and Dana Armour; her grandchildren, Victoria Cheshire, Quinn Cheshire, Andrew Hunter, Sofie Ezzell, Amerie Hunter and Jabe Crawford-Amick Hunter; and her great-nephew, Ryan Armour.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church. An additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

A celebration of Jo Anne’s life will follow at the family farm located at 3683 N NC Highway 119, Mebane, NC 27302.

The family requests that those attending wear bright colors and casual attire as we celebrate a woman whose smile lit up every room, whose laughter brought joy to countless lives, and whose love will remain in our hearts forever.
