Jo Alice Stanfield Nicks

MEBANE, N.C. - Mrs. Jo Alice Stanfield Nicks, 77, of 3566 N.C. 119 North, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at 2:55p.m. at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, N.C.She was the daughter of the late William Lee and Lafay Rudd Stanfield.She was known for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. Mrs. Nicks was a member of Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Mebane. She was an avid shopper so, after her retirement from the textiles and transportation industries, she worked part time with IZOD in the BMOC outlets for over 15 years. She very much enjoyed the beach and was able to make her last trip to Ocean Isle last week.Survivors include her husband of 57 years, John Calvin "J.C." Nicks Jr., of the home; sons, Jay Nicks of Bella Vista, Ark. And Joseph Nicks and wife Tanya of Albemarle, N.C.; grandchildren, William Nicks and Sara Kay Nicks; sister, Ann Lucas and husband Wayne of Elon; brother, Ed Stanfield of Little River, S.C.; and many loving nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 at Crossroads Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Mathew Randolph and the Rev. Jim Rissmiller officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the residence.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads Presbyterian Church, 3302 N.C. 119, Mebane, NC 27302 or to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.McClure Funeral Service in Mebane is assisting the Nicks family.
