Joan (Batton) Fishel

Joan Fishel of Clayton, NC passed away peacefully on May 24th, 2024, at UNC Johnston. She was 86 years of age. Joan was born on October 5th, 1937, and was a native of Danville, Virginia. She was the daughter of Ralph E. and Mary J. Batton, both deceased. She worked for 30 years as a Librarian for the Alamance-Burlington School System. She was a dedicated employee who helped shape young children for many years in this role.

Joan is survived by her two children, Ralph Grizzle and Lisa Grizzle Oldham. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jordan Oldham (Trent Austin), Jeremy Oldham (Courtney Foster), Britton Grizzle, and Alex Grizzle. She had six great-grandchildren, Ava, Karah, Ezra, Charli, Lillie and Frankie.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Fishel and two sisters Faye Carmichael of Danville, VA. And Barbara Wolvek of Greensboro, NC.

Joan will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetary in Mebane. The service will be private.
