Joey Wayne Kirby

Joey Wayne Kirby (62) passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016. Joey was born in Mebane, NC on October 6, 1954. A life long resident of Cedar Grove, he was survived by his wife of 36 years, Terresa Kirby, and his two beloved children, Morgan Kirby and Brennan Kirby. In addition to his wife and children, he was survived by his brothers, Robert Kirby (Mary) of Little Grove, Western Australia, Donald Kirby (Crystal) of Cedar Grove, NC and his twin sister, Robin Kirby of Arlington, Va. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Joey farmed tobacco side by side with his father, brother, and son for his entire life. He loved playing and coaching basketball and softball. As often as he was on a ball field, he could just as easily be spotted at his daughter's dance recital. He had a bigger than life personality, and his smile and outgoing spirit was a stranger to no one. He had a kind and giving heart that will be missed by many friends from all walks of life. He didn't stay in any one place for long, but he could be found at Huey's in Mebane going table to table speaking to everyone he knew, and all the way to Carolina Beach at Golden Sands Motel with many of his closest friends. Joey was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Franklin Kirby and Louise Thaxton Kirby. His love of good southern cooking came from his mother's kitchen. Many people would give the shirt off their back...Joey would bring you a cake, pies, vegetables from the garden or his famous bbq chicken. Joey will be remembered and deeply missed by many. A celebration of life will be held at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 2pm and a visitation will follow. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Ronnie Byrd.
