John Andrew Fladeland Jr.

John Fladeland Jr., 65, of Mebane, passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Monday April 17, 2023.  He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Mebane and an owner of Subway Restaurants.  John is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Karen Fladeland; sons, John Fladeland III, (Alyssa); and James Fladeland; mother, Elaine Wilbur; three grandchildren, Freya, John IV and Claire; sisters, Pam Rodriguez, Risha Murray, Kim Mercer, Melanie Wilbur and a brother Harvey Fladeland.  He was preceded in death by his father, John Fladeland Sr; step mother, Ruth Fladeland and his step father, Merlin Wilbur. John was a loving, generous, hard-working man who had a heart for his family and his faith. He loved being a husband, father and grandfather (Baba) who cherished time with all his family.  Whatever he did, he gave his all.  He was a gifted athlete, playing and coaching sports all his life.  His heart for the Lord had him teaching Sunday school, leading Bible studies and working with Disaster Relief and Handyman ministries.  If you see a wheelchair ramp in Mebane, chances are good John Fladeland had a hand in it. John grew up farming in Minnesota and moved to Mebane in 1994, where he bought his first Subway restaurant.  He was a successful business owner and continued to expand as the town grew.  He always wanted a family business and loved having his sons and nephew work close with him. John had a fantastic sense of humor and loved story telling.  If he wasn’t wearing a shirt that told you he was a “baba” he would make sure to let you know what his grandkids were up to.  He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be missed dearly.  We take solace in knowing that he is Heaven and we will see him again. The family will receive friends on Friday April 21, 2023 from 2pm-3:30pm at First Baptist Church in Mebane.  The funeral service will start at 4pm with Pastor Sammy Ballard officiating.  Interment will follow in Hawfields Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Mebane Building Fund at http://www.fbcmebane.com/give
