John Vincent “Jay” Gallagher, III, born December 30, 1970, passed away peacefully, at home, on August 21, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Jay spent most of his adult life volunteering as a firefighter and EMT. He began at the age of 16 volunteering with the Roanoke Island Fire Department in Manteo, NC. He then worked as a mechanic for Dare County, NC until moving to his birthplace, Alamance County, in 2007. After returning home, he volunteered with Eli Whitney fire department and Chatham County Rescue Squad.
Jay is survived by his wife of 27 years, Kathy Ann Gallagher. He is also survived by his two sons, John Vincent “Buddy” Gallagher IV, and Daniel Dale Gallagher, his stepdaughter, Caitlyn Whittaker, his sisters, Michelle Gill, and Kim Grissom (Eugene) and his brothers, Jacob Dumin, Christopher Edwards (Katy), and William “Frankie” Little (Victoria). Also surviving are his “adopted” children, Taylor Wilson and Skyler Hostetter. There are also numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins surviving him as well. The one thing that Jay never lacked was family.
Jay was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Janice Gallagher and his brother-in-law, Kevin Gill.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at McClure Funeral Home, 1030 S Main St., Graham, NC 27253
