John Thomas Hammond, Sr.

John Thomas Hammond, Sr., 60, of Mebane died Friday, March 9, 2018 at his residence. He was a native of Durham, NC and a longtime resident of Mebane, a cabinetmaker and wood worker, a graduate of Eastern High School and studied forestry at Martin Community College. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Hammond. John loved nothing more than caring for his land, home and family. Being an outdoor enthusiast he enjoyed mowing, grilling, camping and road trips. He is survived by his wife, Kelly Wofford Hammond of the home; son, John Thomas Hammond, Jr. and Heather Smith; grandchildren, Alyssa Hammond and Jackson Hammond; Mother, Joyce Hammond of Mebane; Sisters, Joy Rice of Mebane, Linda Franklin and husband Gary of Mebane, Dora Hammond of Mebane; numerous nieces and nephews, their children and other extended loving family. A service celebrating John's life was yesterday at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of McClure Funeral Home in Mebane by Hospice Chaplain Eddie Self.
