BURLINGTON - Mr. John Robert Hughes Jr., 94, of 814 Scott St., died at 8:06 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at the White Oak Manor of Burlington after five years of declining health and six weeks of critical illness. He was born in Alamance County to the late John Robert Hughes Sr. and Marcella Winn Hughes.Having served in the U.S. Army during World War II, he fought in all the major European Campaigns, retired from Lorillard Company and was a faithful member of the Faith Christian Church.Surviving are his wife, Janet King Hughes, of the home; daughter Janice Moon of Mebane; son, Robert Michael Hughes and wife Kathy of Oregon; stepdaughter, Sandra Payne and husband Eddie of Gibsonville; stepsons, Bobby Lee Dixon of Snow Camp and John Keith Dixon and wife Carol of Burlington; two grandchildren, Katelyn Hughes and Nathan Hughes; and five stepgrandchildren. The family will receive friends at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, from noon until 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. in the McClure Chapel, with the Rev. Reid Dickens and the Rev. David King officiating.
