John David Melvin

Mr. John David Melvin 84, of Graham, NC passed away on January 6, 2023 at Adams Farm in Jamestown, NC. A native of Sampson Co. NC he was the son of the late John and Maude Caswell Melvin. John was a proud veteran of the US Army. John was a member of Wicker Street Baptist Church where he loved the Lord and his Church Family and served as a Church Deacon and was a member of the Church Choir. John retired from Alexander Mills with many years of service. Over the years, John and his wife Pearl enjoyed riding on their trike motorcycle and taking trips to the mountains. John was honored to have been on Roy’s Folks on Fox 8 over his exemplary skills of making “Picking Sticks”. John loved his family, church, country, but nothing put a smile on his face like his granddaughter, Rachel. Survivors include his loving sons, Greg Melvin and Mike Melvin and wife Myra; his grandchildren, Rachel Melvin, Jacob Sykes Caleb Sykes and Charlie Melvin; sisters, Betty Faye Bryant and Barbara Peterson and husband Clark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ida “Pearl” Watkins Melvin and a sister, Lettie Mae Hunter. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday January 14, 2023 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Pastors Ricky Lewis and Scott London officiating. Burial will follow alongside his wife in Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wicker Street Baptist Church at 512 Wicker St. Burlington, NC 27217. McClure Funeral Service in Graham is assisting the family.
