Joni Cofer Phillips

Joni Cofer Phillips, 38, of Mebane, NC, sadly passed away in her sleep on Friday, September 5, 2025. She was born on February 8, 1987, in Forest City, NC. Joni lived a life filled with love, devotion, and joy. She especially cherished family vacations at the Outer Banks, where she made countless memories with the people she loved most. More than anything, Joni lived for her children. Being a mother was her greatest calling and joy—she ensured her kids always felt seen, valued, and deeply loved. Those who knew Joni will remember her as a fiercely loyal friend, a constant defender of others, and someone who always put family first. She never met a stranger, and her warmth and kindness made everyone around her feel special. Joni’s bright spirit lit up every room she entered, leaving an unforgettable mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, loyalty, and compassion will continue to live on in her family, friends, and all who were touched by her presence.

She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Phillips; her son, Xander Phillips; her daughters, Madison and Lemon Phillips; her parents, Robbie Cofer (Debbie) and Tammy Sheppard; her brothers, Jordan Waters (Aden) and Christopher Leatherman; her in-laws, Don Phillips (Joy), who were like a second set of parents to her; her grandmother, Kay Sheppard; her cousin and best friend, Laura Dorsey; her nieces, Evie, Jada, and Lauren; and her nephew, Caleb.

A memorial service will be held to honor her life on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane beginning at 12:00pm. The family will receive friends an hour before the service beginning at 11:00am.
