Joseph Louis Mcandrew, Sr.

February 7, 1930 — April 4, 2017

Mr. Joseph L. McAndrew, 87, of Johnson City, NY, passed away quietly in his sleep on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at the Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham, NC. Born in Duryea, PA, he was the son of the late William Patrick McAndrew and Julia Vilogi McAndrew. He was a graduate of Duryea High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was also a lifelong member of the VFW and American Legion. Mr. McAndrew married the love of his life, Geraldine Plona, in Sept. 1960, then moved to Binghamton, NY, where they became members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Prior to his retirement, he worked at IBM for 26 years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Plona McAndrew and his sister, Elizabeth McAndrew Drury Surviving are: Son, Joseph McAndrew and his wife Heather, of Chapel Hill, NC Granddaughters Mallory McAndrew and Danielle McAndrew Powell, and her husband, Ryan and great-grandson, Ryan Powell, Jr. Brother, William McAndrew and wife, Betty Sisters, Ruth McAndrew Lyons, Mary McAndrew Zilas, and Agnes and her husband, Ronald McGraw Many cherished nieces and nephews Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family in NC. Interment will be held at St. John the Baptist cemetery in Duryea, PA on Tuesday, April 11th at 10:30am. Arrangements are by the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea. In lieu of flowers, donations to FisherHouse.org are requested, an organization helping Veterans and their families.
