Josephine Minor, 95, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025 at home after several years of declining health. She was born on February 28, 1930 in Vance County, NC to the late Lucius and Marie Barker. In her early years, she spent time working at Mann’s Egg House, a fabric shop, and drapery factory. Her real job though was a homemaker and mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Josephine graduated from Dabney High School as Valedictorian. She married her sweetheart, Richard and went on to start a family and eventually move to Mebane. She was a long time member of Hawfields Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, VBS, and was known for her sewing projects. She enjoyed being outside. She could be found in the garden, canning, and weed eating and cutting up wood even up into her 90’s. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time at the mountain house they built.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; two brothers, Bailie Barker and Leon Barker; sisters, Elizabeth Reavis, Nellie Boyd, Sara Dunn, and Betty Jane Ramsey.
Josephine is survived by one son, Vern Minor (Kaye) of Concord, NC; three daughters, Brenda Milton (William), Susan Rooker and Tonya McClain (Chris) all of Burlington, NC; 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and lots of wonderful nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Hawfields Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 1pm-2pm. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/ or the The Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org/
