BURLINGTON - Judith (Judy) Powell Atkins, 93, of 1880 Brookwood Ave., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Jan. 13, 2015, at the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell. Judy was born in Danville, Va., to the late Thomas Marshall Powell and Kate Ferrell Powell. She retired in 1983 after a long, successful career with Western Electric. Through her travels she met many people and made lasting friendships. Judy's passions included gardening, particularly growing beautiful flowers and delicious tomatoes. She often shared her bounty with friends, family, and even strangers. She was an avid reader, sometimes devouring several books in a day. Mysteries were especially a favorite! A lifelong dog lover, she bred German Shepherds and always had a warm place for a stray. Judy attended Mt. Zion Christian Church in Mebane as her health permitted. A wonderful, caring lady, she will be missed by all who knew her.
