Lawrence Eugene Cates Sr.

Mr. Lawrence Eugene Cates Sr., 73 of Graham, NC passed away on Sunday August 20, 2017 at the Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington. A native of Alamance County, NC, he was the son of the late William Melvin and Helen Brown Cates. He attended and loved Freedom Fellowship Church and was an avid UNC Tar Heels Basketball fan. He was a brick mason by trait and a family man by desire. His joy was his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a devoted husband to his loving wife which he loved and cherished so deeply. Survivors include his wife of the home, Lorraine Ferguson Cates; daughters, Alisa Cates and Fiancé Jeffrey Wilde, of Eli Whitney, and Jeanette Page and husband Dean, of NY; sons, Lawrence Eugene “Gene” Cates Jr. and wife Julie, of Graham, and Tim Morton and wife Becky, of Snow Camp; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Holland and husband Leon and Kathy C. Barker. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny, William, and Terry Cates. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday August 23, 2017 at the Concord United Methodist Church with the Pastors Gene Cates Jr. and Molly White officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Tuesday August 22, 2017 at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham and other times at the residence of the family.
