Leslie Strother Van Meter

Leslie Strother Van Meter, 81, of Chapel Hill, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026. Leslie was a loving mother, an amazing grandmother, and a caring soul who brought warmth and kindness to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was a truly sweet person who always looked out for the people she cared about. A natural protector, Leslie had a special way of making those around her feel loved and safe. She found happiness in life's simple pleasures and treasured the time she spent with her family. Her love extended to her beloved dogs, who held a special place in her heart, and she was a wonderful dog mom. Leslie also had a deep appreciation for nature, especially bird watching. She always made sure the birds were fed and took particular delight in watching hummingbirds visit her yard. Leslie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, caring heart, and the unconditional love she gave to her family and animals. Her kindness touched the lives of many, and the memories she created with those she loved will forever be cherished. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Caroline Van Meter; her husband, John Edward Timmons ; her son, John Charles Timmons; her stepson, Barry Collins; and her sister, Juanita Van Meter.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Timmons; her granddaughter, Kirsty Rupert (Chris); her stepdaughter, Mary Simmerman (Wayne); her brother, Garrett Van Meter; her sister, Marchita Bridgman (Michael); and her nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held to honor her life on Saturday, November 14, 2026, beginning at 1:00pm at Concord United Methodist Church: 4462 East Greensboro Chapel Hill Road Graham, NC 27253. A celebration of life will follow the service in the church.
