Lester Thompson Sykes

Lester Thompson Sykes, 91 of Graham died peacefully at his home in Graham on April 4th, 2019.

He was born February 2nd 1928 in Orange County, son of Paul Sykes & Bessie Blackwell Sykes.

Lester was a retired truck driver of Associated Transport and March Furniture that took him all over the United States.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed yard work, classic country music, gardening, car racing, boating, riding his four wheeler and square dancing.

Lester is survived by his sons Jessie Sykes & wife Donna, Jim Sykes, Harold Sykes in Haw River, daughter Tammy Maye and husband Danny of Burlington, four step daughters Bobbie Sweeney & Vivian Crawford of Graham, Rebecca Troxler & husband Garland of Altamahaw, Connie Horner & husband Ned of Franklin. Two daughters-in-law, Kathy Sykes & Tammy Sykes, 27 grandchildren & 33 great grandchildren and beloved dog, Sam.

The service to celebrate Lester’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday April 7th at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham. Friends may visit with the family after the service in the McClure chapel and other times at the home.

Lester was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years Gladys Sykes and sons David Sykes, Ricky Sykes and daughter Carolyn Vaughn.
