Lily Charlotte Smith, 98, of Haw River went to her heavenly home on November 5, 2015, at the Hospice Home in Burlington with her family by her side. Charlotte was the daughter of the late Mary Jane and Bernice Shields Parrish and for 69 years the beloved wife of the late Robert Pinkney Smith. She was also predeceased by her stepmother Mary Hunter Parrish. Charlotte graduated from Haw River High School in 1934 and Burlington Business College in 1936. She retired from Western Electric in 1973 after 23 years of service. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Haw River in 1949 and faithfully served in many capacities. She was a member of the Haw River Senior Citizens and the Colonial Garden Club. Left with cherished memories are son Gerald Smith and wife Joan of Mebane, and daughter Mary Bowes and husband Major of Elon, along with grandchildren Lori Hassell and husband Ron of High Point, Michael Bowes and wife Nanda of Greensboro, Adam Smith and wife Courtney of Mebane, and Matthew Smith and wife Tracey of Chapel Hill, also great grandchildren Lily, Lincoln, Thomas, Samuel, and Isla. The family will receive friends in the First Baptist Church Haw River, NC, Fellowship Building from 2:00 to 3:15 pm on Sunday, November 8, 2015. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 pm, with the Reverends Walter Jones and Jonathan Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
