Lonnie Leroy Maynard

May 4, 1938 — March 18, 2026

Kernersville

Lonnie Leroy Maynard, affectionately known as Leroy to his friends and family, laid down his working tools on March 18, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on May 4, 1938, to Lonnie "Bill" Maynard and Lola Williams Maynard, Leroy lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a passion for community involvement.

Leroy was a loving husband to his late wife, Jeanne Loftis Maynard, and a guiding light to his children, Lisa Slaughter (Donald) and Pratt Maynard (Angie). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Pratt Lee Maynard, Cory Maynard (Morgan), Katelyn Slaughter, and great-grandson, Grant Lee Maynard. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Linda Maynard, nephews, Brian Maynard (Angie) and Troy Maynard (Laura), and stepsons, Mark Jones and Gary Sherman (Joan) and a step granddaughter, Andrea. Leroy was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Steele, and his brother, Jerry Maynard.

Leroy's work ethic was unparalleled, having spent many years at Pepsi before retiring from Flav-O-Rich Dairy Company. His commitment to his country was evident through his service in the US Army. Beyond his professional and military service, Leroy was deeply involved in various associations. He was a proud member of the Stokesdale Masonic Lodge #428, the Burlington Shrine Club, the Greensboro Shrine Club, and the Triangle Shrine Club in Durham. His dedication to the Shriners was further exemplified by his active membership in both the Amran and Oasis Shriner's organizations. For 34 years, Leroy was a devoted member of the Scottish Rite and took great pride in his involvement with the Tobacco Rd Hillbillies Oriental Band and the Royal Order of Jesters. His proudest achievement, however, was being given the title of "Grandpot" by his grandson Cory, a testament to the deep bonds he formed with his family. An avid sports fan, Leroy's enthusiasm for baseball, basketball, football, and racing knew no bounds. He was a fervent supporter of the UNC Tarheels and the Atlanta Braves. His love for sports was not just as a spectator; he relished the opportunity to play softball in Durham. Leroy found immense joy in coaching youth travel baseball and American Legion teams. His passion for racing led him to spend countless hours at the Piedmont Drag Strip.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 2pm-4pm at the Burlington Shrine Club. The service will start at 4pm with the reception to follow at the club. Burial will take place on Monday, March 23, 2026 at 11am at Person Memorial Park.
