Mamie Reed Mcbride

Mrs. Mamie Lee Reed McBride, 102, of Roma Rd, Haw River, died Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Alamance Health Care. Born in Haw River, N.C. on March 24, 1912, she was the wife for 66 years of the late Melvin Henry McBride and daughter of Charles Lee and Nancy Callahan Reed. Mrs. McBride graduated Valedictorian from Haw River High School in 1929 and attended Burlington Business College. She was a lifetime member of Haw River United Methodist Church where she served as a teacher, choir member as well as other positions. She was honored by the United Methodist Women for her Christian leadership, services and faithful support. She was also a member of the Haw River Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include son, Gary McBride of Haw River; daughters, Nancy Mebane of Burlington and Carol Vanderburg of Mebane; grandchildren, Melinda Hatchell and husband Marty of Gastonia, Randy Vanderburg and fiancé, Kathi Bunn of Mebane; Lynn Trace of Graham; Jan Porterfield and husband Todd of Haw River; great-grandchildren, Rhian Vanderburg and Fiancé Chris Harris of Millbrook, Ala. and William Vanderburg of Burlington; great-great grandson, Liam Harris of Millbrook, Ala; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters Mable Coble, Edna Smith and infant Clara Reed; brothers, Charles, Glenn, Robert, Donald and son-in-law Bill Vanderburg. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care given to their Mother by Sheryl Stout, Minnie Bigelow, Wanda Way, Hospice & Palliative Care of Alamance/Caswell, Home Instead Senior Care and Alamance Health Care. The funeral will be conducted at Haw River United Methodist Church Thursday at 11:00 AM by Rev. Jeanne Neal. Burial will be in Haw River Cemetery. The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham 6:00-7:00 Wednesday night.
