Marcia Raukuce Johnson, age 85, of Athens, OH/ Cary, NC passed away Sunday June 14, 2015 peacefully after a battle with cancer and congestive heart failure. Born Aug. 22, 1929 in Port Huron, MI, Marcia was the daughter of the late Alice (Patsy) Raukuce (Kumlien) and Vincent Anthony Raukuce. As a toddler, Marcia and her family moved to Milton, WI to live with her maternal grandmother due to her father’s advanced Multiple Sclerosis. Marcia earned a Bachelor’s degree from Milton College and Masters in Arts from Appalachian State University. She married the “love of her life”, Monroe, in 1952. The addition of 2 children to the family filled her time and heart during their school years and beyond. She was a member of The Athens Village, OU Women’s Club, Flower Power, Garden Club, Athens Cotillion, Hospice Bridge tournament, Athens Country Club, OU Orchestra (violin), Winston-Salem NC Symphony (violin), Athens First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Konoak Methodist Church in Winston Salem, NC, and the OU Green & White Club. Marcia and her husband of 63 years traveled many miles, around the world together, and enjoyed dancing anywhere! Traveling the World and time at their condominium in Garden City Beach, SC, near Myrtle Beach, held special meaning to her. Marcia was an avid sewer, gardener, enjoyed art, and music, and was an accomplished piano and violin player. She was a fierce bridge player with tournament wins! Marcia is survived by her husband A. Monroe Johnson; one daughter – Marie (Keith) Bosscawen of Raleigh, NC; Three grandchildren – Reid Bosscawen of Mebane, NC, Morgan Bosscawen of Raleigh, NC, and Zachary (Ana) Johnson of Martinsburg, WV, Three nieces- Gail Leider, Debra (Wayne) Hermanson, and Becky (Dale) Heiking, and their families, all of Wisconsin. Besides her parents, Marcia is preceded in death by a special grandmother Anabel Carr Kumlien, a favorite Aunt Phoebe Waterman, her sister Marianna Leider, and her beloved son Mark Allen Johnson. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Services will be held on June 20, 2015 at McClure funeral home of Mebane NC.
