Margaret S. Gilbert

Mrs. Margaret S. Gilbert, 92, of Burlington, NC, passed away on Saturday November 28, 2015 at the Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington. A native of Alamance County, she is the daughter of the late Armand Wilmer and Mary Leona Smith Mansfield and her mother she lost as a child, Kate Talbert Mansfield. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church where she served faithfully as the Church pianist for many wonderful years. Her ministry was her traveling singing group “Young at Heart” where she and others went around to nursing homes and other places to bring joy and smiles to people’s faces. She also played piano for the Burlington Senior Center for many loving years. Her family was her joy as well as her Church family and her Pastor. She was known for never meeting a stranger and her kind heart, she always put others above herself. Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Smith Sutton and husband Clyde, of Burlington, Bonnie Smith Rivers, of Burlington, Joan Smith Southern and husband Jack, of Graham, Elaine Smith Mills and husband Dickie, of Graham, and Janice Smith Harris, of Graham; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death b y her husband, Jack Gilbert; daughter, Cathy Smith Perkins; son, Gary Lee Smith; sisters, Elva Meadows Howard and Lou Flynn, and a brother, Charles “Bud” Mansfield. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday December 1, 2015 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Pastor Tommy Bright Officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel UMC Cemetery in Burlington. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Monday November 30, 2015 at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham, and other times at the residence of the daughter Pat at 419 Maryland Ave. Burlington, NC.
