Marjorie Duke King

Marjorie Duke King born October 8th1928 and a former resident of Graham and Burlington, passed away peacefully on October 12th 2022 at Regency Retirement Village Of Morristown,TN.  Marjorie retired from Western Electric in Burlington after 35 years of work and returned to school to obtain a cosmetology license and opened a Beauty Parlor next to her home.

For the past 4 years Marjorie had been a resident of East Tennessee and happily lived with her granddaughter Laurel Cotten and son-in-law Melvin Cotten in Morristown, TN. Before age required Marjorie to move closer to family in Tennessee, she attended Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church in Burlington, supported WMU, worked with Hospice as a volunteer, taught Sunday School and held many positions in the church during her 50-year membership.  Marjorie was preceded in death by husband Allen M. King, Mother Alma Whitaker, brother Roy Duke, sister Ruby Curl, niece Ann Curl, grandson Morgan Wylie, and great granddaughter Samantha Tutor.  She is survived by and deeply missed by her daughter Sheridan Wylie (husband Art), three grandchildren: Laurel Cotten (husband Melvin), Forrest Wylie, and Ashley Davis (husband Aymes). Nine Great-Grandchildren: Christopher Daughton, Ian Lambert, Elijah Davis, Stewart Wylie, Lindsey Wylie, Liam Wylie, Constance Wylie, Tina Cotten and Jessica Cotten. Marjorie is also survived by 10 great great-grandchildren: Lailee, Christopher Jr., Sara and Morgan Daughton, Penelope and Paisley Lambert, Aixx Heartwig, Graydon Cotten, Savannah and Peyton Tutor.

Marjorie always kept a strong positive outlook on all the trials and tests of life and held strong to the faith in God’s love and strength in dealing with the lessons in life. She supported her family, friends, those who needed help, neighbors, strangers, and always included them in her prayers as her mother and grandmother before taught her. She was a wonderful model of charity, hard work, a loving spirit, and devoted to her Christian faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love, honor, and example with her family and all who knew and loved her. She made the world a better place wherever she lived and will be long remembered and loved by all.

A service to celebrate her life will be 12:00 PM Wednesday at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11:00 – 12:00 Before the service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mcclurefuneralservice.net
