Mary "Frances" Pugh Payne

Mrs. Mary Frances Pugh Payne, age 101, of Burlington, NC passed away on April 1, 2023 at the Hospice Home of Burlington. A native of Alamance Co. NC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Clyde and Nancy Mabel Braxton Pugh. Frances was retired with Western Electric in Burlington and following retirement, she volunteered for numerous years as a Pink Lady at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Over the years as a Pink Lady, she would also spend her time helping knit prayer shawls for cancer patients so that a little joy may be brought to others. She was a devoted Christian and was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church. She always enjoyed doing her crossword puzzles. In her earlier years, she and her late husband would always enjoy their trips to Ocracoke Island to be around the sand and salty air. She will always be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Payne Jordan; her son, Russell Payne and wife Joyce; her loving grandchildren, Elizabeth Knight and husband, Clay, Rebecca Lewis and husband, Ian, Stephanie Strong and husband, Jordan and Emma Beckwith and husband Travis; her special 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Isabel Morrow and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin Edgar Payne; her sister, June Carey; a brother, Ben Pugh and a son-in-law, Robert Jordan. A private graveside service will be held at Alamance Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest next her late husband. Pastor Jim Mitchell will be officiating. McClure Funeral Service in Graham is assisting the family.
