Maxie Curry Tate Sr.

Mr. Maxie Curry Tate Sr. 93 of Graham, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday December 10, 2020 at the Hospice Home of Alamance. Born in Orange Co. NC, he was the son of the late John and Maude Pentocost Tate. Maxie attended Elon College and was a proud veteran of the Merchant Marines and the US ARMY serving in the Korean War. Following his time in the service, Maxie went to work with AT&T and retired after numerous years of service. Maxie was a proud member of the Historic Providence Christian Church, where he served as a Church Deacon, Church Usher, Board Member, and taught The Men’s bible class for 30 years. Maxie never lost his love for the Lord and his Church family. Following retirement, Maxie enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels and Caring and Sharing, as he would always drop what he was doing to go help others. Over the years, Maxie enjoyed nothing more than being with his family as he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Flora Sykes Tate; her daughter, Sherry D. Tate, of Burlington; sons, Dennis Andrew Tate and wife Song, and John Sykes Tate and wife Becky, both of Graham; grandchildren, Jonathan Tate, Heather Tate, Mikayla Tate and Anna Hirose; sisters, Betty T. Snead and Mazie T. Blalock and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving son, Maxie Curry Tate Jr.; his twin sister, Ruby Tate Terry; brothers, John, George, and Dan Tate. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday December 17, 2020 the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Pastor Darryl Peebles officiating. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Wednesday December 16, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home in Graham.
