Mayor Buddy Edward Boggs 83, of Haw River, NC passed away on December 11, 2021 at the Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington. Born and raised in Haw River, NC he was the son of the late Nathan E. “Red” Boggs and Lottie Councilman Boggs Jones. Buddy graduated from Haw River School in 1956 with he and his wife Barbara getting married the following year in 1957. Following Buddy and Barbara getting married, Buddy joined the US Air Force and retired with 30 years of service (1958-1988) as Commander Chief Master Sergeant. He attended Elon College and graduated from Burlington Business College with an accounting degree. He was elected to the Haw River Town Council in 1997 and served as Mayor from 2001 to 2019. An active Haw River community member, he is enthusiastically involved as a member in the Haw River United Methodist Church, Treasurer and Chairman of the Haw River Community Cemetery Committee, Member of the Haw River Senior Citizen Club, and Member of The Haw River Historical Association. The Piedmont Triad Regional Council presented the Grady Hunter Award for Regional Excellence to Buddy Boggs, outgoing Mayor of Haw River at its December 18, 2019 Board of Delegates’ meeting. Buddy has served on the PTRC Board of Delegates for 22 years with nearly perfect attendance. He is a faithful public servant who is an engaged and active member. The PTRC Board of Delegates will miss his leadership. Survivors include loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Jones Boggs; his son, Michael E. Boggs and Fiancé Raynelle Tosh Phillips; his daughter, Shelia Canaday and husband Wade; his grandchildren, Joseph, Carrie, Samantha, Travis, Jennifer, and his many loving great grandchildren; and a brother Pastor Walter Jones and wife Beth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby, Richard, Lewis (Bubba), Roger, and Billy Boggs. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday December 18, 2021 at the Haw River United Methodist Church with the Pastor Laura Kalua and his brother Pastor Walter Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Haw River Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Friday December 17, 2021 at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham.
