Michael Scott Smith, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, in Alamance Co., NC, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 5, 1955, in Berks County, PA, Michael's zest for life and love for his family defined his 70 years. Michael, known affectionately as Pop Pop to his grandchildren, was the loving husband of Leona Shuman Smith, his soulmate and partner in every adventure. He is survived by his sons Scott, Chad and his wife Tanya, Chris, Johnie and his wife Brandi, and Brandon and his wife Jana, as well as their daughter Sarah Ranicki and her husband Andrew. His grandchildren, who were the light of his life, will carry forward the joy and love he showered upon them. He was also survived by one brother, Bradley Smith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Smith, his mother and stepfather, Gail Bredbenner Boady and Robert Boady, and his brother, Doug Smith. Each family member played a significant role in his life, shaping the man he became. Professionally, Michael's passion for cooking led him to a fulfilling career in the restaurant industry. His culinary skills brought joy to many, and his work with Deka Battery showcased his versatility and work ethic. Recently he was enjoying his retirement playing golf, taking trips to the mountains, and visiting family and friends in PA.
An avid fan of all teams Philadelphia, you could always find him in front of the TV on game day and sharing those moments with friends and family. His golden retriever, Maggie, held a special place in his heart, and their bond was a testament to his capacity for love and companionship. Michael's outgoing personality was truly infectious. He had a unique ability to make others smile and laugh, often being the first to start singing or dancing to lift everyone's spirits. His presence was a source of happiness, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. As we bid farewell to Michael Scott Smith, we celebrate a life lived with joy, love, and an unwavering commitment to family. His legacy of laughter, kindness, and warmth will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Michael's memory will be treasured forever, as he remains in our hearts as a beacon of light and love.
