Mickey Cheek

Mr. Michael Jennings “Mickey” Cheek, 67 of Graham, NC passed away on Saturday February 13, 2021 at Duke Hospice, The Hock Family Pavilion. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Howard Devoe and Frances Scalf Cheek. Mickey was a man who loved his city and community. He served numerous years as a city councilman for the city of Graham. He loved helping his friends and neighbors. Mickey was a longtime employee of the Alamance Burlington School System as the driver’s education teacher at Graham High School as well as serving as a substitute teacher for many years across the county. He was a proud supporter of the GHS Athletics and Band programs. Mickey was a former coach for the Graham Recreation Department for over 20 years where he devoted his time to mentoring and providing a positive influence to children. Mickey was a member of the Historic Providence Christian Church and had been a former member of the Graham Jaycees. Mickey had a huge heart and compassion for animals, specifically the love for his dogs.  Mickey was an avid fan of the Duke Blue Devils, Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees, however nothing put a smile on his face more than his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Ramona “Tweet” Blanset Cheek; his son, Jason Ray Cheek and wife Summer; his loving grandchildren, Taylor, Raygan and Mayson; his niece, Stacia and his brother, CV May. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Jessica Devon Cheek and a brother, David B. Cheek. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 20, 2021 at the Historic Providence Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM on Friday February 19, 2021 at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham and other times at the residence of the family.
