Mildred “Nana” Losee Gerni May11,1926 – May 6, 2017 Mildred Gerni died peaceably Saturday, May 6, 2017, just short of her 91st birthday at Twin Lakes Retirement Center in Burlington, NC. She was born in Surprise, New York, to Raymond and Elsa Kaiser Losee. She is preceded in death by her Husband Carlton W. Gerni, Father Raymond S. Losse, Mother Elsa M. Losee, sisters Mrs. Dorothy Walter and Mrs. Ruth Walter. Mildred was a devoted wife for over 62 years to the late Carlton W. Gerni, Mebane's General Electric plant manager. Mildred enjoyed baseball and was a diehard Atlanta Braves fan while Carlton was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan. She was the “go-to” person in the family for prayers. She was active in many Lutheran Churches singing in the choir, participating in a variety of committees, teaching Sunday School and making beautiful banners. Her cross-stitched crosses have been distributed around the world. Mildred loved golf and always hit the golf ball down the middle of the fairway, a gifted artist, and loved to feed her birds who visited her beautiful garden. She also loved to travel around the world but her favorite trips were with Carlton towing a pop-up trailer across the U.S. She was devoted to her friends and family including her four children and their spouses (Douglas and Cindy Gerni, Diane and Larry Hanson, David and Mary J. Gerni, and Dwayne and Mary Ann Gerni). She had 8 grandchildren, 6 greatgrandchildren and one greatgrandson due in July. Her grandchildren and spouses include Darren Gerni, Chris and Marie Gerni, Jason Hanson, Michelle and Michael Akridge, Carolyn and Kevin Smith, Alli Gerni, Heather and Michael Mulaiya, and Lea Gerni and Dakota Marcoplos.. Her greatgrandchildren include Amanda Gerni, Lauren Gerni, Micayla Harrington, Cole Smith, Harper Smith, and Alexander Akridge. Everyone loved her! Her legacy lives on in so many positive ways. A reception will be held on May 12th at 5:30 p.m. at the McClure's Funeral Home in Graham. A memorial service will follow at Redeemer Lutheran Church at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Spoomer officiating. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Augusta Memorial Park, 1775 Goose Creek Road, Waynesboro, Va In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2309 Lacy Street, Burlington, NC 27215. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories and condolences online by visiting the McClure's Funeral Home, Graham, NC.
