Mildred Long Jordan, 83, of Twin Lakes Community Healthcare Center passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. A native of Roxboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Albert Long and Sarah Arrington Long and was married to her beloved late husband, Bennie Thaxton Jordan for 63 years. Mrs. Jordan was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by one daughter, Elaine Jordan Slaughter ( Al) of Oxford, NC and a son, Bennie Howard Jordan and (Geraldine) of Haw River, and two children preceding her in death, Tim and Sandra Jordan. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Shannon Cottrell (Lance) of Oxford, Blake Jordan (Jessica) of Pinehurst, Zoey Kernodle (George) of Carrboro and one great granddaughter, Skylar Cottrell. She is preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters and has two surviving siblings, her beloved sister, Mary Lois Jackson of Burlington and brother, Bob Long of Roxboro and a multitude of cherished nieces, nephews and in-laws. Mrs. Jordan was employed for more than 15 years by the Rental Uniform Corporation and over 10 years by the Burlington Retail Outlet. In more recent years, she was a homemaker and caregiver for her husband and son. Mrs. Jordan was a long time member of the Graham Wesleyan Church for over 50 years. She was an avid supporter of the Wesleyan Women’s Missionary Society and Sunday School teacher of many years. Her love for her Lord, her church and church family was known by all who knew her. She carried her testimony with her daily and shared her love for Christ with everyone she met. Before her marriage, Mildred was a member of the Roxboro Ladies Traveling Softball Team as an outstanding short stop, which played games across North Carolina and Virginia during World War II years. A Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday July 5, 2014 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Rev. Wayne Byrd and the Rev. Wayne Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time on Saturday at McClure Funeral Home in Graham and other times at the residence of her son, Howard at 225 Ball Park Lane, Haw River. The family wishes to express their appreciation to all the wonderful nurses and staff at Twins Lakes Healthcare Center. Your love and compassionate care was impeccable and Mildred loved you all like the extended family you had become. The love and support of all her dear friends was a true blessing and enriched her life beyond words. A special thanks to our longtime family friend, Rodney Copeland for his loving friendship and timely visits with our mom.
