Myra "Gayle" Hughes Clayton

Mrs. Myra "Gayle" Hughes Clayton 63, of Mebane, NC passed away on March 16, 2024 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. A native of Orange Co. NC, she was the daughter of the late Jerry Hughes and Alice Newman. Myra had a special love for all animals and had a gift of getting strays to come to her so that she could find them help and care. She has always had a green thumb and what she could do with her plants and flowers was amazing. Myra had an eye for décor as it showed with her home and kept a good clean house which was instilled in her children forever. She enjoyed cooking and fishing on her beach trips with her husband Royce. She was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses. She was always sharing her knowledge and love for the Bible Truths with her family and friends. Myra will forever be remembered for her tender and loving heart to all and the values she had laid the track for her family. She was a loyal wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend but nothing put a smile on her face like her children. Survivors include her loving husband of 36 years, John Royce Clayton; her children, Maranda White and Brannigon White and his wife Gunela; her granddaughter, Isla White; a sister, Terri Cardona; brothers, Jerry, Michael and Russell Hughes; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Bryant and a brother, Timothy Hughes. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on March 21, 2024 with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane with Curtis Bowe officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane. McClure Funeral Service in Mebane is assisting the family.
