Nancy Gertrude Daniels Jones

Nancy Gertrude Daniels Jones, 90, of 405 North 9th Street, graciously accepted God’s grace of eternal life the morning of September 16, 2024 in her home.  What a glorious reunion that must have been!  She was born October 10,1933 in Orange County, NC to William Thomas (Tom) and Civil Cornelius Sykes Daniels.

She attended Orange County schools and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1952.  She married Donald Fred Jones in Efland on October 17, 1953.  From this union came 3 children, Dennis Jones, Lynn Jones and Linda Carol Jones.  Gertrude worked in hosiery in her early years, Kayser Roth for many years while raising her family and retired from Sandvik in Mebane.

Gertrude was a loving wife, mama, grandma, great grandma, aunt, sister, and friend to all who knew her.

Her love of gardening and flowers was a joy to her throughout her entire life. She also loved to cook for her family and friends, and baking and decorating cakes for so many years.  But above all was her steadfast love and faith in Jesus Christ.  She was a lifelong member of Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church where Gertrude and Donald raised their family in faith.  She was very active in the church for as long as she could be- from her love of decorating the church to Vacation Bible School and so much more. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, daughter Donna Lynn Jones Poole, grandson Timothy Michael Whitehart, and brothers and sisters~ James Daniels, Thomas Daniels, Bill Daniels, John Frank Daniels, Mary Frances Daniels Turner, and Louise Daniels Ball Russell.  She was also preceded in death by many nieces and nephews.

Left to honor her memory and legacy are her son and daughter-in-law~ Dennis and Rita Jones of Franklin, NC, daughter and son-in-law~ Linda Carol and Ed Hunter of Mebane NC, granddaughter~ Abby Jones, fiancé Michael Powell and great granddaughters~ Emma and Charlotte, all of Leland, NC, grandson~ Jeremy Hunter of Colorado Springs, CO, great granddaughters~ Annalynn and Laylaynn Hunter of Mebane, NC, grandson~ Adam Jones and wife Krista, great grandchildren~ Xavier, Gretchen, Jacob and Theo, all of Dearborn, MI, and great grandson~ Marquise Evans-Whitehart, of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive family and friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, September 20 at McClure Funeral Home, 1308 S. Third St, Mebane and other times at the family home. McClure Funeral Home, Mebane is assisting the family.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 21 at Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church, 3505 Chestnut Ridge Church Rd, Efland, officiated by the Reverend Heather Locklear.  Live feed will also be available on the church’s Facebook page.  Interment will be in the church cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to return to the fellowship hall afterwards for refreshments.

The family wishes to express their love and gratitude for all those that assisted mom and her family during her final journey home.
