Nancy Scarlett, a cherished mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, at the age of 79 after suffering from a long illness. Born on August 1, 1945, Nancy's life was marked by her unwavering kindness, her love for her family, and her dedication to her community.
Nancy's early years were spent in the loving embrace of her parents, Delmo and Marnie Fuquay. She grew up to be a woman of strength and character, traits that would define her throughout her life. Her journey was shared with her beloved husband, Byrant Scarlett, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, a legacy that continues through their family.
Professionally, Nancy retired from the Alamance Orange Water Department, where her work ethic and commitment to service left a lasting impact. She was not only respected for her professional achievements but also for her involvement in various associations, where she contributed her time and expertise generously.
Nancy's personal interests were a reflection of her vibrant spirit. She had an affinity for puzzles, which she approached with patience and a problem-solving mindset. Her love for dogs was evident to all who knew her, as was her passion for reading, which allowed her to explore worlds beyond her own.
She is survived by her loving son, Garrett Nichols Jr.; her sister, Cornelia Burch and her husband Mike; her stepson, Mike Scarlett and his wife Amy; and their family. Nancy's memory will also be cherished by her nieces, Paige Allison and her husband Bill, Wendy McElfresh and her husband Terry; and her nephew, Michael Burch Jr. and his wife Katie, along with their families.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Thursday June 5, 2025 at Oakwood Cemtery.
