Nellie "Nell" Margaret Aldridge

Nellie Margaret “Nell” Aldridge, 93, of Mebane Rogers Road, Burlington, NC passed away on Sunday November 20, 2016 at the Hospice Home of Burlington. A native of Alamance County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Walter David and Mamie Anderson Aldridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Lula Kimsey and Mary Alice Aldridge, brothers, Whitted, Levi, and Marvin Aldridge, and nephew, Jimmy Aldridge. After graduating from Elon college, she worked for Carolina Casualty, Kayser-Roth and Bankers and Shippers. She was a member and officer of the NC Secretaries Association over her working years. She attended and was a dedicated member of Cross Roads Presbyterian Church in Mebane where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Presbyterian Women, and served as a deacon of the Church. Known to almost everyone as “Aunt Nell”, she lived in the family home and cared for it most of her 93 years. Built in 1865, it will always be a special memory for those of us blessed to be in her life. Aunt Nell was a caretaker for her family, and selfless servant to all. Nothing demonstrated her love of family and servant heart more than a lifetime of dedicated care for her sweet special needs sister Mary Alice. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Dot Hicks (Junior), Larry Aldridge (Frances), Janice Smith (David), Kenneth Aldridge (Pam), Susan Wylie (David), Jo Nell Collins (Tony), David Aldridge (Betty), Ray Kimsey (Nancy), Angela Hinton (Jim), and Mel Aldridge; and many loving great and great great nieces and nephews. Family, church, friends and neighbors have been an important part of Aunt Nell’s life. Many have been there to help support her these past few years. A special thanks is extended to the nieces and nephews, along with cousin Ida Anderson and friends Jimmy Coble and Edith Ann Brown for such loving care and kindness to her. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday November 26, 2016 at Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Mebane with the Pastor Willie Teague officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the McClure Funeral Home in Mebane and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Alamance/Caswell at 918 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Crossroads Presbyterian Church at 3302 NC-119, Mebane, NC 27302.
