MEBANE, N.C. - Nelson "Nat" McCauley, 79, passed away Aug. 1, 2013 after a seven-month battle with cancer.Born June 20, 1934, to the late Ira and Alma Fox McCauley, he was a lifelong resident of Mebane, N.C.He worked for Pepsi Cola and retired from Kingsdown Mattress Factory. Nat loved bluegrass music and played the banjo. He enjoyed the music and company of many friends for over 20 years at his "Happy Home" on Wednesday nights.He is survived by sons Mitchell McCauley and Barry McCauley (Teresa) both of Mebane; grandchildren, Jacob McCauley (Anja), Allison McCauley, Natallie McCauley, Ryan McCauley, Megan McCauley and Robin Dorsett (Harold); several nephews and nieces; and the mother of his children, Sandra McCauley.He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Georgia McCauley Gattis and Elizabeth Holt Gattis; brothers, Orva McCauley and Melvin McCauley; and significant other, Betty Jean Dorsett.Visitation will be at McClure Funeral Service in Mebane Friday, Aug. 2 from 7 until 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the McClure Chapel on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Mebane, following the service.
